October 31-November 4th
Beaumont/Alameda Pre-K
Hello Pre-K Families. We had really fun week learning about our Five Senses. The students were able to experiment in tasting several different foods. Many of the students said “I don’t like lemons” you know why because…..they had some funny stories to tell the teachers of when they had tried lemons in the past. They loved trying to guess what was in the mystery box while giving descriptions of what they thought it might be by using touch. During the smelling day, students were very excited to tell the teachers that they recognized the coffee smell because their parents drink it. Lavender, peppermint and orange smells seem to be the class favorites. We played a new game using our sight which was to find the turtle in the classroom. The teachers hid the turtle and students worked as a class to find where the turtle might be. They appeared to very ecstatic about this game!
We started off the week by celebrating Hudson’s 5th birthday. Happy Birthday Hudson!
Ella was chosen for person of the week. Through her poster we learned that she is five years old. She has brown eyes and hair. Some of Ella’s favorite foods are ice cream, pasta and pizza. When she grows up she wants to live with her mom, dad and pet fish. She likes playing. She does not like when she gets muddy falling down or when she messes up her name. Her favorite colors are blue and red. If Ella could have three wishes they would be to have a castle, for it to snow every day and to go down the slide in Hawaii.
Thanks and Reminders
Thank you to Henry and his family for providing fruits and vegetables this week for snack.
Our theme for next week will be Health. The following week we will further the health theme by focusing on My Body. The letter of the week will be Ff. THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 10TH AND 11TH.
The Potluck will be Wednesday November 9th in the Pre-K classroom. The potluck will start promptly at 8:30am. At about 8:50am the students will go with the teachers outside so that parents may have some more time to visit with one another. Clean-up crew if you could please have the classroom cleaned up no later than 9:15am it would be much appreciated as the students will come back to the classroom and start their day. Thank you again for all that signed up. The teachers are much appreciative.

The Week in Review
Monday: Today was a wonderful Monday! We started by celebrating Hudson’s 5th birthday. Thanks so much to Amanda and Scott for coming in and sharing photos. Happy Birthday, Hudson! We started our 5 Senses unit today, and are looking forward to learning about them all week. We went over what are 5 senses are, and what we use them for. We read “Me and My Senses,” and focused on Sight today. We took a long walk outside and used our eyes to look for a special colored leaf of our choosing, and ended the day by playing “I Spy” on the carpet. We also started learning about letter ‘E’ this week, and enjoyed some things our friends brought in for sharing. Lola brought in a photo of her brother Emmett and herself, Davis shared a very special train, and Cannon brought a cool little toy duck. Thanks for a great day, Pre-K!
Tuesday: Todays sense was Taste. We learned that our tongue is used not only for tasting, but it helps to move food from the front of your mouth to the back before you swallow. The tiny pumps on our tongue help us to tell if a food is yummy or yucky. We also learned our four tastes are: bitter, sweet, sour and salty. The students were able to taste four different foods: pretzels, lemons, marshmallows and chocolate. We graphed what we liked and then tallied up the number in each column. We had a class tie between marshmallows and pretzels. We found out that lemons are the least favorite. A free choice was to make a leaf collage with leaves the students collected yesterday. The following students shared:
Gabriel shared a book called Bugs Live Everywhere. Henry shared an elephant. Ella shared her name and an elephant. Margret shared an elephant. We started a weather chart. Each day we will graph our weather and then tally it up at the end of the month.
Wednesday: Today in Pre-K we continued our unit on the five senses by studying the sense of smell. We read the book Sniff Sniff! which is all about smell. For our special project we gave the students five “mystery” items to smell and had them guess what they were. We found out that they were coffee, orange, lavender, cinnamon and peppermint. Most of the kids liked the smells! Outside, we played Man on Mars, Duck Duck Goose and enjoyed the sunshine! Some choices we offered today were Legos, leaf printing, and garden puzzles! Sharing today was fun. Jack shared an Egg, Charles shared an animal and an ocean encyclopedia, Hudson brought in a hang-man game, and Deacon brought in an Envelope for today’s letter ‘E’ sharing.
Thursday: Today was another fun day of learning about our senses. Our focus was on our sense of Touch. We learned about how we feel and why, and read a book called “The Sense of Touch.” We did a super fun project called Mystery Box. Different items were places inside the box, and we took turns feeling and trying to guess what they were. We sang a song about our five senses to the tune of “This Old Man” called “The Five Senses Song.” We had lots of sharing today! Benton brought in some chocolate Eyeballs, Tess brought a book called Enoch the Emu, Dominik brought in a stuffed Dumbo the Elephant, Chase brought in picture of Ernie (as in Burt and), an Elephant, a tiny Eiffel Tower, and a dolphin (they use Echolocation), Simone brought in a toy Elephant, Lola showed us some letter cards, Vincent brought in a snail he found, and Maggie brought in an Egg that her Grandmother’s chicken had laid.
Friday: Today was started our day off by reading Ella’s person of the week book and poster. It was great to learn more about Ella. Also the students worked very hard with their drawings and had wonderful things to say about why they like Ella. We learned about our last sense today which is hearing. The students listened to several different recordings of animal sounds and had to guess as a class what animal they heard. They seemed to really enjoy this activity! We had a creation station open at the art table for the students to make whatever they wanted. We played a new game called find the turtle. The students closed their eyes and the teacher hid the turtle somewhere in the classroom. They all worked very nicely together in trying to find where the turtle was located. We read Me and My Senses to end the day!
Have a great weekend!
