Monday: No school

Tuesday: In Morning Meeting we introduced our new job helpers and the number 5 as the new number of the week. We continued counting down to the last day of school with our Hundreds Chart (5 days left).  Our focus this week has been on Kindergarten readiness. During morning meeting and group time, we discussed what to expect in kindergarten, and how it will be the same or different from pre-K. To help students feel more prepared, we addressed any questions or concerns about kindergarten and we read several books, including Tiptoe Into Kindergarten, Hello School, and Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten. For our project, we prepared sunflower seeds to take home and plant. Sunflowers, if planted now, should reach full bloom by the first day of the new school year. This provides children with a visual timeline, easing anxiety about when kindergarten will start.

Wednesday: Today we read Kindergarten Kids and I Know Numbers. We talked about what to expect in kindergarten, and students shared some things that they already know about kindergarten from older siblings. We also finished up our sunflower seed project. In the afternoon, we rehearsed for our graduation!

Thursday: Today the students were very excited for our graduation ceremony! During our group time we talked through questions, concerns and expectations for graduation. Students shared who was going to be there to watch their performance, and some students talked about outfits they have decided to wear. We read some fun books during our group time too. As a final project, students made another self-portrait using sharpie and watercolors. It is great to see all the growth the students have made over the school year.

Friday: We continued talking about what to expect next year in kindergarten. We read Kindergarten Rocks and School Rules. During morning free choice, our T.A.s led a few board games, including bingo, Candyland, and Chutes and Ladders. Board games allow pre-k students to practice turn taking, patience, and good sportsmanship. We enjoyed some fun and games on the field in the afternoon, and students finished up their self-portraits.

Gym Time with Teacher Mike:

This week in the gym was a week to celebrate our graduation. We played graduation tag, all of our favorite gym games, and even had a day on the field. We got to watch the middle schoolers play some Kickball while we sang “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” for them. Hopefully for our last week at Beaumont we are going to be able to use the field some more and enjoy some sunshine! Have a great weekend.
