2012 IED SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION
Summer Hours of operation: 7:30-5:30
Summer at IED is relaxed and fun, with plenty of time for outside play. We’ll present an awesome new theme each week as we explore children’s activities, recipes and sports from other countries, learn some unusual art techniques, and play water games on hot summer days! In addition, children will have time to help in the garden, play in the gym, and craft all summer long. Activities are designed for k (must be 5 years old by June 2012) through 5th grade. We’ll divide into groups each day for different age appropriate activities, coming together at different points in the day for lunch, outside play time, and so on. Healthy snacks will be offered two times a day.
Children are enrolled on a weekly basis. You may register for any week/s. In order to reserve a spot for your child, please register by May 1st, 2012. After that registrations will be taken on a space available basis.
Week 1. Circus Magic! June 18-June 22. Wild & wacky big top adventures! In the mornings; join us for a week of carnival games on the playground! Mime relays, prizes, balloon tossing, banana Olympics. In the afternoon; kids will make crafts like magic wands, special snacks like caramel apples and learn awesome magic tricks! Amaze your friends and family with your new skills as an illusionist.
Week 2. AMAZING PLACE June 25-June 29. Grab your passport and let’s travel! This week we gather on the field every morning to explore some multi-cultural kid’s games like Pelota pared, Cricket and Zum Zum. We will continue our journey across exotic landscapes in the afternoon through art projects and intriguing recipes. Spain, Indonesia and Egypt are just a few countries on our list. We will be working with various materials like fabric, metal and wool, as well as tasting delicious & fun treats like coconut, mango and Jicama.
Week 3 Astronauts, Aliens & Asteroids July 9-July 13. Blast off with us this week into DEEP SPACE. We will play wacky cosmos themed games like 4 armed alien and have moonwalk relays across the field. Later in the day we will create some out of this world art projects like our own NASA t-shirt and glow in the dark crafts. Share some astronaut food with your crewmates after building a gumdrop space craft piloted by a fuzzy alien being.
Week 4 ALICE IN IED-LAND July 16-July 20. IED invites you on an exhilarating trip down the Irvington rabbit hole. We will nibble on edible tea cups, play flamingo croquet on the lawn, make mad hatter hats and white rabbit ears! The fun will never end on this zany adventure. On Friday we will have a scavenger hunt and a cherry tart making party! Campers will all leave grinning like the Cheshire Cat, sitting in his tree.
Week 5 ACTIVE BODY & MIND July 23-July 27. This is an Invention, Art and Sports camp geared towards electrifying your muscles and brains through high energy games and magnificent works of art! Mornings will find campers out on the playground playing group favorites like soccer, capture the flag and kickball. Later, we will look at great works from Leonardo Da Vinci and see what kinds of inventions, machines and masterpieces we can create.
Week 6 DRAGON DAZE July 30-August 3. In Chinese Mythology, 2012 is the year of the water dragon. This week is all about fantasy creatures, folktales and legends. We will participate in the IED Olympic Games as we look at Greek history, make some delicious recipes from China, and explore some Native American mythology. Crafts will focus on creating some imaginary beasts of our own out of fabric, clay & wood!
Week 7 W.I.R.E.D. August 6-August 10. Week 7 at IED is focused on wire craft art including bead work, kinetic sculpture, garden art and flexible “stained glass” pieces. Kids will use various types of wire to create their works. Outside we will be playing a variety of fast paced team games on the field like flag tag, balloon stomp, kickball and soccer. This week we will play fun games requiring team work to accomplish a goal.
Week 8 SPLISH SPLASH August 13-August 17. Wahoo! The last week of camp is the soggiest, grossest, smelliest week of all. Water themed games all morning like splash basket ball, over under buckets and tea cup relays! In the afternoon we put on our lab coats and explore the wonderful world of yucky science. We will be working with “growing” polymers, making edible worms (eww), and filling the room with ghostly smoke filled bubbles. Plan on getting drenched and grimy every day this week!
